Bonchey is a new label rooted in La Paz, Bolivia, and founded mid 2017 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Bonchey's sustainability is at the heart of its product design. The bags are made to last and of timeless design. Their strength and light weight allows a Bonchey-owner to use the bags not only as a fashion accessory, but also for grocery shopping, thereby making single use plastic bags unnecessary.
It is a brand with a very interesting supply chain because the raw material sourcing and production are made in Bolivia supporting local employees with the labor condition guaranteed by international certification.
Bonchey is proud of its Bolivian partners, who are constantly coming up with creative environmental projects, considering the worker’s needs and creating realistic change. A recent example of this is a piece of property they own on the Bolivian countryside, where they are currently setting up a shared organic vegetable and fruit garden for the workers.

What does sustainable fashion mean to you? - Adopting fair work practices - Durability |
What would you like the priorities of your target customer to be? - Quality - Price - Comfort - Brand Identity |
Is your communication correctly inspired by your degree of sustainability or do you think you could improve that? We purposely chose to not use sustainability as a marketing tool. We think it should be the base of any brand, especially when recently founded. Though, as it becomes more and more important for customers, we are working on a discrete space on our website to explain how BONCHEY is sustainable. |
Do you provide your customers any services or kit to preserve the quality and extend the life of your products (making them usable longer or reusable)? Yes, first we had a little folder, but considering the fact that is ‘paper waste’ as well. We have a ‘care’ part on the webshop and a highlight on instagram about it. |
Have you ever done donations? Since How long? Do you think you will do that in the future with your company? Currently doing a campaign to support & overpay our makers in Bolivia during the pandemic. Since ± 2 weeks. Will last as long as the pandemic lasts. |
In which area/activity and how do you want to improve your sustainable business approach in the closely future?

Being half Bolivian half Dutch myself, I founded the brand firstly to support our makers in Bolivia. I was inspired by the Bolivian indigenous women (who, like my fathers family, have been discriminated for centuries and still are) and I would love to get more and more their style acknowledged in the context of mid to high-end fashion world wide. |
